DJ BackSlash: DJ/Producer
When spoken to about music and how it’s engineering the future, Kesh says, “It will probably have everything to do with me. Music is the bloodline that will always keep me alive”. Once a member of homegrown ‘live’ drum and bass outfit Spacebar, he is a self-taught DJ/producer and also a recording artiste for local Malaysian drum and bass label “Take Off” and Loops Collective. He produced the dance-floor filler track ‘The Way I Feel’ on the recent “Extended” volume 2 Drum and Bass compilation, which also featured big names like DJ SUV and Utah Jazz. Two of his recent tracks “Backtracker” and “We Are Speaking” were chosen from a long list of Malaysian music producers and was featured on the Choons Awards 2009 compilation CD.
Backslash has also played in many venues around the club circuit since the early 90′s such Energy (former FIRE Discotheque -96′), The Backroom KL (2000), Clubhouse, DV8, Movement, Ruums, Thumper (Sg), Centro, Poppy Collection, and recently adopting residency at The Palace @ Sheraton Imperial KL and Desire @ The Manor. He has performed alongside internationally renowned DJs such as Josh Wink, DJ Cash Money, DJ Yoda, Jon Carter a.k.a Junior Cartier, Roger Sanchez, DJ Love Dinero (The Mixtape General) and Asian Dub Foundation just to name a few.
Being actively involved in the scene, he was also nominated for Best Hip Hop/RNB DJ category for CHOONS AWARDS 2010 and also Clubbing9ine.com’s Top DJ Awards 2010.His musical styles consist of randomly selected genres from R&B to Ol’ Skool, Hip Hop to G-Funk,Reggae to Dancehall, House to Break-beat and Drum n’ Bass accompanied by Guest MC’s. With generous servings of pure urban and commercial tunes and the added touch of pure turntablism paraphernalia to his sets, you would love to watch this DJ in action. Surging energy by the abundance to the forefront of the dance-floor is what you’re going to expect from him at his gigs. Backslash is set to entertain and bring the larger audience together every time the occasion arises. Previously adopting residency at Poppy Collection, its Soul Seduction signature nights in Poppy Garden every Fridays and Saturdays, was known to be one of the biggest Hip Hop and R&B parties in Kuala Lumpur and still holds strong till this very day.
