The Pioneer SDJ08 active reference speakers are designed specifically with DJ/Producers in mind.

Harnessing Pioneer’s long-standing history of speaker production, SDJ08 deliver accurate, neutral sound professionals can rely on, while their innovative features make them adaptable for all your studio roles. Whether you are DJing, producing music or auditioning tracks, the SDJs deliver the high-quality sound you would expect from Pioneer. A built-in linear equalizer enables you to fine-tune the frequency to suit your activity, while a unique input switching function enables effortless movement between four separate sources. Plus these are the first speakers that can change settings using an external manual controller. Tested and perfected by renowned international DJs including Steve Mac and Paul Woolford, the SDJs boast the clarity, quality and flexibility to meet the demands of today’s DJ come producer. With their sleek design and gun metal woofer and controller, they are the ideal addition to your studio.

Loaded with technology to ensure perfect sound reproduction To achieve accurate reproduction of the original source, and robust low frequency sound, the SDJs are equipped with a 10cm high-force magnet and a low resonance chimney-style heat sink. The speakers connect your music production and DJ set-ups directly to an integrated bi-amp circuit, which drives the tweeter and woofer independently, ensuring perfect clarity and no loss of quality.

The first studio speakers to enable changes in settings through one controller The SDJ08 are the first speakers to allow DJs and producers to control their settings at the touch of a button. The elegant controller lets you adjust the volume, mute the speakers, switch audio inputs and turn the EQ on and off from one remote location. And joining the speakers together with a link cable means any adjustments need only be made once.

Built-in linear equaliser takes away the hassle of a sub-mixer The speakers’ built-in linear equalizer adjusts the frequency characteristics in the low and high bands from -6 dB to +6dB, without the added expense of a sub-mixer. Whether you are DJing, creating, or listening to music, the SDJs let you fine-tune the sound to suit your needs. Compare your latest productions in the mix by switching to your decks and mixing them with released material, then switch on the EQ to recreate the characteristics of hi-fi speakers and the big club sound.

Unrivalled flexibility through four-input switching The SDJs are the only speakers to enable switching between four audio terminals. The speakers can adapt to any home studio situation, so you can alternate between computers, DJ equipment and other devices without the inconvenience of reconnecting.

Total mute function to preserve volume settings as a frame of reference Unlike competitor speakers, which tend to offer only partial mute, the SDJs feature a total mute option. This allows DJs and producers to mute the sound without adjusting the volume so you can easily return to mixing or creating tracks at your preferred volume settings, preserving your frame of reference.

Tweeter and sound axis control delivers a wide sweet spot The waveguide shape of the tweeter and sound axis control guarantee wide directivity, so you pick up the high-quality sounds wherever you are positioned.

Sound Diffusers

On January 27, 2011, in Sound Diffusers, by MCDave@SoundKontrols

Sound Diffusers are designed to scatter or disperse sound waves, thereby reducing standing waves and echoes and creating a better listening environment. Adding sound diffusion to your acoustic room treatment can improve the speech intelligibility and improve the overall listening environment within the room without adding excessive amounts of sound absorption materials to the room.

Effective use of sound diffusers is often the first step in treating a room’s acoustics. Sound diffusers are designed to redirect or disperse sound waves to lessen the number of standing waves or echoes, resulting in an improved listening environment. The use of sound absorbers alone in a room can create a cavernous feeling. Combining sound diffusers with sound absorbers improves speech intelligibility as well as the overall listening environment.

Sound diffusion in a control room imparts the all-important Initial Time Delay (ITD) that keeps early reflections off room boundaries from getting to your ears too soon and smearing the direct sound you hear from your monitors. In conjunction with sound absorption, sound diffusion can effectively turn virtually any space into one that is appropriate and useful for the purpose of recording or monitoring sound with a high degree of accuracy.

DJ Kay

On January 24, 2011, in DJ Portfolios, Professional DJs & Emcees, by MCDave@SoundKontrols

DJ KAY

A typical start of this music junkie and all he did & still does is for the love of music. Started back in 1993 where the ‘New Jack Swing Era’ was pumping up clubbers veins and he was grooving it at his first Club in Damansara Utama called the ever famous ‘Colours Fun Pub’ where he laid his hitz for the floor as people grooved to his tunes.  After a year he jumped to another club in SS3 called ‘Jay’s Goes Montreux’ where he spills the retro tunes for a year and decided to go offshore where all the parties was on board. He shuffled himself to the Berjaya Holidays Coral Princess Cruise Ship where to prove to holiday goers that parties also happens when you’re far away from land & he proved it right for a year !!!

I guess he missed Malaysia too much and decided to come back and went up to Kuantan where ‘Lipps Boom Boom Room’ was the most happening club around. Had enough of the scene there and came back to central for good as he was spinning at ‘Pyramid Dance Club’ in Damansara Heights where the crowd was into the hitz he laid on the decks while Bangsar became famous and he got the opportunity to spin at ‘Mr Bongos’. He understood the clubberz even more after experiencing the flavas of clubbers from land & offshore. He knew exactly what to play & when to play it keeping clubberz wanting more !!

DJ KAY slowed down for while & went fun pub style under the Contract holder DJ Fresh from ‘RED104.9’. He laid hitz from the Top 40’s, 2 step music to the legendary Marvin Gaye. A club called ‘Carnegies’ in Bangsar came along teaming up with DJ VICK-Z throwing party hitz from the 70’s & 80’s as it was a club with a motto ‘Bringing Back the 80’s’. A DJ console of a fiery Volkswagen made it more fun as crowd started pounding everyday for the music he & DJ VICK-Z laid on the decks.

After ‘Carnegies’ he then made ‘RP Entertainment Centre’ in Hyaat Saujana Subang  his place & stayed on for a few years before heading up to ‘Uncle Chillies Fun Pub’ in Hilton PJ for a year, Head DJ at ‘Soda Club’ in Hartamas for 6 months & headed back to ‘RP Saujana Resort’ on popular demand by the patrons. DJ KAY has done his share of traveling, spinning in Kuala Lumpur for special nights at the ‘Sugar Club’, ‘Ivy’, ‘Modjo’, ‘Baze Renaissance’ & massive variety of events on various occasions. These special events have given DJ KAY nothing but great musical experiences to offer the Music community. With music knowledge from the 70’s to the latest NuSoul  Flavas of R&B and House Music, he rocks any given crowdby the selection he plays.

DJ KAY has an outstanding knack for reading a crowd and knowing exactly what to throw down to capture that special something without rinsing the obvious anthems. Pleasing the crowd as always, DJ KAY likes to fuse chunky retro beats around paced up Motown grooves and huge build ups. His quick mixing style hears him fly through over 35 tracks in an hour causing a relentless barrage of euphoria and drive.

See what he’s got as he’ll blow your mind away !!!

Exclusive Interviews MCDave

On January 24, 2011, in DJ Portfolios, Featured, Professional DJs & Emcees, by MCDave@SoundKontrols

At Exclusive we believe in showcasing both established and up and coming talent in Malaysia and the surrounding region. Dave’s career so far, coupled with his drive and enthusiasm leaves us in no doubt that he will achieve the goals he puts in front of him. In this interview we talk to Dave about his past, the present and what he wants to achieve in the future.

About Dave
Dave Ramana or MCDave as he is also known, established SoundKontrols in 2008 in order to provide good quality sound to his customers.  The brand SoundKontrols with the tag line “Always the Good Sound” was created in order to promote the right sound experience. Dave’s experience in audio and sound extends back for more than 15 years. He was formerly the resident DJ at Salem Power Station, Kuala Lumpur in the early 90s.  He still DJs across South East Asia as Guess DJ primarily for exclusive events only.

Exclusive: Dave, thank you for taking the ime to talk to us. We would like to start off by talking to you about your early days as a top DJ. How did you get involved with DJ’ing and what was it that prompted you to do this?
Dave Ramana: Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do this interview. I started DJing in 1990 right after my high school. I have great interest in music especially New Wave since the early 80s and grew up my teenage years listening to it. Then came the 90s with modern hip hop with mix of old skool which gave me the inspiration to be a DJ. I started DJing under the guidance of DJ Macumba at the Royal Selangor Club there onwards moved to Sapphire Club. Back in the early 90s it is a requirement for a DJ to have good command of English and voice before we are even taught the basic mixing. I was fortunate to have both and with that I decided to try Broadcasting DJ besides just being a regular club DJ. I was under the guidance of Andrew Susay who trained on how to be a good broadcasting DJ. It’s a combination of good music knowledge, the ability to speak as a broadcasting DJ that landed me into Salem Power Station in 1992.

Exclusive: Are there any AV/Sound products new to the market or coming soon that are making you excited?
Dave Ramana: Yes, I am excited about some of the new products shown at NAMM 2011. These include the Serato SL 4, Emulator Multi Touch Midi Controller and the all new Traktor Scratch PRO. These products will be in the Malaysian market in 2nd Quarter 2011 and should transform the way DJ’s entertain the crowd.  More than 9 companies (Pioneer, Denon, Numark,  Pro Audio Star, American Audio, Gemini, Native- Instruments, Akai, Reloop) came out with new MIDI controllers at the NAMM 2011 and this will revolutionalise and transform the way DJs perform.

Exclusive: What’s the goal for SoundKontrols over the coming years?
Dave Ramana: We’d like to reach out to more Malaysians and provide them with good sound quality which will be in comparison to a professional home theatre room by installing SoundKontrols Acoustics panel in their very own sound or home theatre room.  SoundKontrols DJ Academy will train and cultivate the new generation mind set by producing a different type of DJs in Malaysia, DJs who can spin vinyl, different kind of genres and most importantly a DJ who is Mic friendly. In the coming years, Shop@SoundKontrols will carry more manufacturers and give Malaysians the opportunity to save money by purchasing online.

Exclusive: Tell us about the SoundKontrols DJ Academy
Dave Ramana : SoundKontrols DJ Academy was established to train good quality and talented Professional DJs with the highest standards leading on to better job opportunities. The academy specializes in using ‘state of the art Digital Vinyl Systems’ to train all DJs with an emphasis in the studio and on the job training. The Academy ensures all students are trained on how to handle the crowd using the mic.  When I first started the Academy we taught about doing it for the money. I wanted to train DJs and pass my knowledge which will enhance the student to become a good and successful DJ.

I also teach them every aspect of DJing from Club, Bistro and Mobile DJ and how to market themselves in the entertainment industry successfully.  We have a structured curriculum which will provide the students with theoretical and practical knowledge. We emphasize in giving the entertainment industry in Malaysia quality DJs. Therefore, we only train 2 students maximum per week  in order to maintain the quality of our courses.

All of our instructors are leaders within their own entertainment industry and students are taught on a one to one basis. We don’t leave the students in the studio alone by themselves because we give 100 percent of our time for each class.  By doing this, we ensure quality time with every student and also allow the students to ask us questions that they may have.

Just as any other Education Academy, it is compulsory for students to sit for a written exam before they are awarded a certificate of completion.  All courses are taught with highest standards within the entertainment industry. In addition, we also assist our graduates from the academy with job placement by placing them with the right entertainment outlet. All graduates of the academy are automatically registered to SoundKontrols DJ Academy Alumni. The Alumni encourages to share all forms of knowledge and other aspects of  DJing  among themselves which will foster good friendship. SoundKontrols DJ Academy Alumni also organizes quarterly gatherings and invites other PRO DJs to share their knowledge.

Exclusive: You obviously work out! How much time to you still spend in the gym and does working out get more difficult as you get older?!
Dave Ramana: Good question! Yes, I have been working out for the last 15 years and occasionally I also do part time personal training as I am a Certified Personal Trainer.  Nevertheless,  fitness has been part of my life style along with my daily healthy diet plan. I normally spend about 90 minutes in the gym, 4 times a week in total. As you get older, you tend to become more easy going and think good health is not a priority. It’s when you get older that we have to be more attentive about what we eat, alcohol consumption and routine exercise. My only advice is to keep healthy by exercising and eating the right food. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind!

Exclusive: What’s your favourite ‘hang out’ place in KL?
Dave Ramana:  That’s a tough question to answer. I wish I could give you one place that comes to my mind immediately but unfortunately I can’t think of any. We have far more places to dine, wine and party today than 20 years ago.  I hang out at bistros more than clubs simply because I can spend good time chatting. Probably one good place to hang out for good music and beer will be at Finnegans Irish Pub.

Exclusive: Thanks again Dave for taking time to talk to us, is there anything else you would like to add?
Dave Ramana: A Big Thank you to you for this Exclusive Interview. I hope to see more good places opening in KL. I guess, worst case scenario, it would be nice to own your own place at the end of the day. A Place that is different in every aspect, service, food, ambience and the most important MUSIC.

This interview was specially brought to you by www.exclusive.com.my
